This table contains the BAX X-Ray Galaxy Clusters and Groups
Catalog. BAX (`Base de Donnees Amas de Galaxies X': see
http://bax.ast.obs-mip.fr/ for more details) is a multi-wavelength database
dedicated to X-ray clusters and groups of galaxies which allows detailed
information retrieval. BAX is designed to support astronomical research by
providing access to published measurements of the main physical
quantities and to the related bibliographic references: basic data
stored in the database are cluster/group identifiers, equatorial
coordinates, redshift, flux, X-ray luminosity (in the ROSAT band) and
temperature, and (in the online version at http://bax.ast.obs-mip.fr/) links
to additional linked parameters (in X-rays, such as spatial profile parameters,
as well as SZ parameters of the hot gas, lensing measurements, and data at
other wavelengths, such as the optical and radio bands). The clusters and
groups in the online BAX database can be queried by the basic parameters as
well as the linked parameters or combinations of these.
The authors expect BAX to become an important tool for the astronomical
community. BAX will optimize various aspects of the scientific analysis of
X-ray clusters and groups of galaxies, from proposal planning to data
collection, interpretation and publication, from both ground based facilities
like MEGACAM (CFHT), VIRMOS (VLT) and from space missions like XMM-Newton,
Chandra and Planck.

This table was created by the HEASARC in October 2004 based on
CDS table B/bax/bax.dat.
Entries in the original CDS table for which all
parameters other than the name were blank or -99.99 (the equivalent of null)
have been deleted from this HEASARC table. There remain a small number of
entries which have null ra and dec values in this table which thus cannot be
found using position-based searches, namely the clusters 'Abell0548S',
'RXJ0847.2+3449', and 'Abell1750N': these clusters can only be found either
by doing an unconstrained search of the table to find all entries or by doing
a parameter search on the name field using these names.
The cluster designation.
The Right Ascension of the cluster in the selected equinox. This was
given in J2000 equatorial coordinates in degrees with a precision of 0.0001
degrees in the originating table.
The Declination of the cluster in the selected equinox. This was given
in J2000 equatorial coordinates in degrees with a precision of 0.0001 degrees
in the originating table.
The Galactic Longitude of the cluster.
The Galactic Latitude of the cluster.
The redshift of the cluster.
The flux in the ROSAT (0.1 - 2.4 keV) band, in erg/s/cm2.
The ADS-style reference bibcode for the flux information.
The X-ray luminosity in the ROSAT (0.1 - 2.4 keV) band, in erg/s.

The temperature of the X-ray emitting intracluster gas, in keV.
The lower mean error in the temperature, in keV.
The upper mean error in the temperature, in keV.
